STYLE EVOLUTION OF JENNIFER LOPEZ

In light of Jennifer Lopez’s new show “World Of Dance,” I wanted to dedicate a post to this multifaceted woman. What a timeless beauty Ms. Lopez is! Can you believe she will be 48 years old in July………….I REPEAT 48 and clearly, she can scoop up anybodies man.

Jennifer Lynn Lopez was born and raised in my hometown the Bronx, New York. Some of us may have forgotten but Jennifer Lopez first appeared on the scene as a dancer. In 1990 she won a national competition, which earned her a spot as one of the “Fly Girls,” on “In Living Color.

NBC’s “World Of Dance,” is a perfect match for Jennifer Lopez. She has lived the struggle of being a dancer, she understands the obstacles that dancers face on a daily. This outlet is allowing her to give back to the dance community, which she holds close to her heart. In an article I found on Variety.com she explains:

“This is about creating opportunities for people.” She adds, “I love dance such at a core level and I always consider myself a dancer first because I became a singer and an actress after. That was my first form of artistic expression. It’s so part of who I am.”

It’s beautiful to see Celebrities using their platform to help artist break into the industry. Even with all of the opportunities, we have at our fingertips today. Celebrities still understand the battles many artist face.

Take a look below to see the evolution of Jennifer’s style over the years. Which is close to three decades…WOW!

STYLIST SPOTLIGHT: ADE SAMUEL

So as promised, I am spotlighting some of my favorite stylists. Celebrities would be nothing without stylist, and I mean NOTHING!!!!!!!!!! I don’t believe stylist get enough credit either…..especially those of COLOR.

Ade Samuel is one of my favorite stylists. Not only is she from the Bronx, NY but she also attended my Alma mater Buffalo State College! Ade Samuel started off interning for publications such as W Magazine and  Teen Vogue. She eventually received a promotion and became a fashion assistant. Through her internship experience she was able to network with top-tier stylists.

After her move from New York City to Los Angeles she was able to land styling projects with stars such as Beyonce, Nicole Richie, Rihanna, and Miley Cyrus. She now continues to style for top names in the entertainment industry like Big Sean, Yara Shahidi, Jhene Aiko, and Kelly Rowland. Ade Samuel is not just a stylist but a dope shoe designer as well. She launched her self-named shoe line last year and it’s goal is to create luxury footwear for women, designed by a woman.

If you’re looking for a shoe that has style, comfort, class and edge shop ADESAMUEL.COM

METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART: REI KAWAKUBO/ COMME DES GARCONS: ART OF THE IN-BETWEEN

On Friday, I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to check out the Rei Kawakubo/Comme Des Garcons: Art of the In- Between Exhibit. This exhibit examines nine expressions of  Kawakubo “in- betweenness.”  Before visiting this exhibit, I had my idea/interpretations on the term ‘Avant Garde,’ but after viewing this exhibit I truly understand the meaning behind the pharse. This exhibit was so beautifully executed, one of the best the I’ve seen so far. This was an exquisite piece of work & I would recommend everyone to visit this exhibit.

Take a look below to see some of the pieces & a few qutoes from Rei Kawakubo.

“My clothes and the spaces they inhabit are inseparable – they are one and the same. They convey the same vision, the same message and the same sense of values.” – 2017

“Fashion is not art. You sell art to one person. Fashion comes in a series and it is a more social phenomenon.” – 1998

ROMPERS FOR MEN OTHERWISE KNOWN AS “ROMPHIM”

romphim-700x350.jpgHow do we feel about this latest ‘trend’ that just popped up all over social media last week…….

1. FYI, this isn’t a new trend! Men have been wearing jumpsuits/ all-in-ones, for some time now. Not sure why people were acting as such.

2. I’m all for this look! I do believe that it takes a certain type of man to rock this look. A man with style and pizzazz.

3. I understand the reasoning behind people thinking this is too “feminine” for a man to be wearing or in general it is ‘childish’. To me, there isn’t anything wrong with men wearing rompers. If you want to rock it try it out….and like Jay-Z said: “It ain’t for everybody.”

4.   For the homophobic out there, REALITY CHECK most gay men have created some of the best trends/garments that many of us love to run to the stores and stand in line for. This term “RomperHIM” needs not to be a term…….”Romper” is simple enough.

Closing Statment: I much rather see this on the streets than this…..

MINI VACATION TO ORLANDO

Orlando was nothing short of amazing. I traveled to Orlando with a good friend of mine, to visit one of our friends’ that moved from New York last year.

Orlando was so peaceful and airy, nothing like the loud, dog eat dog city we’re so use too. I’ve been to Florida before but it was different this time around. We landed in Orlando Thursday night, we chatted it up and had a small dinner by the pool.

We took a trip down to Universal City Walk on Friday, where we sipped on Fat Tuesday drinks, (if you’re ever in town try the “Eye Candy”) and snapped some photos. After our shoot we ate at “Bubba Gump Shrimp,” and headed back home to get prepared for the night’s festivities. The party scene is endless downtown, so many diverse clubs to choose from. I don’t recall the club my friends and I went into but, I remember the club being overly crowded and hot AF. We decided to cut our night short and get some food at “Waffle House.” Clearly food makes my night.

On Saturday, we had a intimate BBQ by the pool with a couple of friends. We ate good, drank swell and sat in the Jacuzzi. We played a drunk game of “Never Have I Ever,” and took one too much shots of Hennessy. After the BBQ we went to a nightclub called Patio. We nonetheless took full advantage of the dope graffiti wall and once again busted out in a mini photo shoot.

Sunday, we took an hour and a half long trip to Clearwater Beach, which was very long but so worth it. This beach was BEAUTIFUL ! First time I seen white sand in the states…EVER! After getting a mini tan, we went to a seafood restaurant on the Broad walk called “Crabby’s.”

This trip was much needed and definitely strengthened our friendship. Love my Boyfriends! ❤

MET GALA 2017: REI KAWAKUBO/ COMME DES GARCON “ART OF THE IN-BETWEEN”

Image result for MET GALA

The Met Gala known as one of, “fashions biggest nights out,” occurs every year on the first Monday in May. The Met Gala is an annual fund raising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Every year there is a certain theme that guest should abide to. This year, The Met Gala celebrates the opening of the Costume Institute’s exhibition: Rei Kawakubo/ Comme des Garcons”Art of the In- Between.” Avant Garde to me means out of the ordinary, pushing boundaries, something that no one else has done. Now keeping that in mind, a lot of attendees didn’t participate in this year’s theme. There were a beautiful array of gowns but only a few hit that “Avant Garde” mark. Take a look!

Rihanna! She just gets it! Rih Rih was the best dressed and was on point with this years theme. She wore a Comme des Garcons Fall 16 gown with Dsquare2 heels. This WHOLE look just works!!!!! From the makeup to the shoes everything was on point!

WINNER !

SECOND PLACE

Katy Perry followed through with the theme as expected from her. Wearing a custom John Galliano design for Maison Margiela. Very over the top, very extreme, very Katy Perry. Do you see that third eye…….

TOP FAVORITES

This is what I call on POINT with the Theme. Jourdan Dunn wore a custom H&M look, which she actually assisted in designing.  You can not have the MET Gala without Solange. Solange was like F* this weather, I am wearing a down coat with a train, soooo Avant Garde!!!! YASSSSSS to Stella Tennany in Comme des Garcons.

Keri Washington rocked this custom black double-crepe-sablé cutout Michael Kors gown with silver embroidery. Zendaya’s whole looked WOO’d me. From her coral lip color, her perfect Afro to her Dolce & Gabbana gown just purely amazing.  Rita Ora gave me Hollywood glam and the MET combine in this Marchesa gown.

100 % loved Lily Aldridge in this custom white Ralph Lauren cutout dress and red Balenciaga thigh-high boots. Tracee Ellis Ross gave me full Avant Garde in this Comme des Garcons look.  A little bit of class and a little bit of edge is what Ross was serving. I dig these corn rows and Valentino caped gown on Ruth Negga.

Loved this Dolce & Gabbana dress on Lori Harvey. Ashley Graham looked stunning in this  custom H& M gown. Didn’t really hit the theme but I still  loved this Burberry gown on Ruby Rose.

Hailey Baldwin rocked this strapless bustier and triple tier tulle skirt by Carolina Herrera. Everything that the beautiful Janelle Monae wears is ravishing. She wore her signature black & white look, giving me life in this Ralph & Russo gown. Laura Osnes looked beautiful in this playful Christian Siriano gown.

TIME FOR SOME FELLAS…..

Wiz Khalifa looked pretty cool in this Thom Bowne suit and white Doc Martens.  Jaden Smith rocked this Louis Vuitton suit with is latest accessory, his dreads.  Future looked dapper in a custom H&M suit.

Michael B. Jordan rocked a Ralph Lauren suit, wish he went with a different color shoe.  Love this custom H&M suit on Joe Jonas. Nick Jonas wore this fun Ralph Lauren blazer.

BEST DRESSED COUPLES!

Blake Lively wore a custom gold Atelier Versace gown. Cassie wore a beautiful On Aura Tout Vu gown and Diddy wore Rick Owens.

PERFECT MATCH.

Pharell Williams and his wife Helen Lasichanh wore Comme des Garcons. Edward Enninful and Naomi Campbell wore Azzedine Alaia.

Really adored this Off White look on Liu Wen. Loved this custom H&M gown on Stella Maxwell. Wasn’t a huge fan of Gigi Hadid’s Tommy Hilfiger dress but it was on point with the theme.

Not my favorite look on Kendall Jenner but she definitely rocked this La Perla Haute Couture design. Loveedddd everything about Zoe Kravitz in this Oscar de la Renta gown with black feather detailing.  Lala Anthony looked gorge in this Thai Nguyen Atelier gown.

NOT SO FAVORITES……..

Nicki Minaj in a custom H&M gown…..didn’t do much for me, not as daring as I know Nicki can be. Cara Delevingne wore a Chanel ensemble wasn’t my favorite look but it did hit that “Avant Garde” mark.  Didn’t care for this Ralph Lauren look on Priyanka Chopra. Reminded me of a sexy inspector gadget.

No, No, No to this Alexander Wang catsuit on Bella Hadid, very sexy but just didn’t work for the model. Kim Kardashian looked very simple and clean in this Vivienne Westwood gown, would have been perfect for a non MET Gala event…….Kylie Jenner looked gorgeous in this Versace gown but it just  reminded me of a sea monster.

Chrissy Teigen wore a Marchsea gown, it fit the theme but it didn’t look good on her, surprisingly. JLo gave me Jackie Kennedy vibes in this blue Valentino gown……no where did this touch the theme. A bit disappointed in miss Lopez.
